Sovereign Harbour

About

The biggest composite Marina in Nothern Europe, Sovereign Harbour is a great walk with stunning yachts, wildlife and five harbours and beaches to explore. This walk explores the inner and outer harbours, lock gates and beach at Langney Point, whilst also giving a glimpse of the North, West and South harbours.

Starting at the free car park by the North Harbour, this walk takes approximately one hour or longer if you wish to explore the other harbours.

Starting point: Harbour Quay. To get to the next point, walk along Harbour Quay towards the boat yard. There are public toilets just after the boat yard on the right. Turn right into The Waterfront complex and inner harbour just after the Seasons bistro.

Point two: The Waterfront. To get to the next point, walk along the quayside, passed all of the restaurants and cross over the bridge into the West Harbour.

Point three: West Harbour. To get to the next point, walk straight from the west bridge and straight along the inner harbour until you reach the south bridge.

Point four: South Harbour. To get to the next point, walk over the south bridge and follow the quayside of the inner harbour to the left until you reach the lock gates.

Point five: Lock gates. To get to the next point, turn right and walk into the outer harbour (by the sea)

Point six: Outer harbour. To get to the next point, follow the promenade along the harbour wall until you reach a gap in the housing with a large water feature in the middle.

Point seven: Water Feature. To get to the next point, return to the quayside of the outer harbour and walk towards the Martello Tower on the beach next to the harbour mouth.

Point eight: Sovereign Martello Tower number 66. To get to the next point, turn back from the beach and return to the lock gates, cross over the pedestrian bridge onto the other side of the lock. Pass the marina office and lifeboat station and follow the road until you see a path to your left onto the quayside.

Point nine: Inner harbour marina. To get to the next point, follow the quayside until you reach the north bridge of the north harbour, opposite the restaurants.

Point ten: North harbour, back at the starting point
